TEDDY BEAR BAG PROGRAM

For children who have been removed from their homes, teddy bear bags serve as a comfort during a difficult experience. Foster parents and caseworkers say the impact that a teddy bear bag has on a hurting child is remarkable.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Provide the following items for the teddy bear bags: Teddy bears, toothbrushes, toys, books, permanent markers, socks, new underwear, small games, etc. You can also donate extra large plastic bags that zip or snap to hold the items. A complete teddy bear bag costs about $10 if you choose to make a monetary donation specifically for this purpose.

Transitional Housing for Youth in Independent Living

Scholarship House
In partnership with DISC Village, the Department of Children and Families and the City of Tallahassee, Big Bend Community Based Care is proud to announce the first Transitional Scholarship House for youth in foster care that have reached adulthood. This Scholarship House is designed to provide a caring environment for those youth that desire to attend college or a vocational program.

Transitional Village
Transitional Village is a long-term solution to meet a constant need of afordable housing for youth transitioning out of foster care. The vision for Transitional Village is to build enough homes to accommodate every child that desires to participate in this housing initiative. These energy efficient homes will utilize renewable resources and environmentally-friendly appliances and materials. One of the unique aspects of these homes is that many of the young adults will be involved in the actual construction of these units.

You can help with the development of these transitional living cottages through your tax-deductible donations. Donations of property, homes, condos, or apartments that we can renovate for our youth would make a world of difference.
